Still Need Help?

Where To Begin

Welcome to the Theatre Arts subject guide!

There are a number of tabs at the top of the page that will help you with your research.

A good way to begin is by searching the library catalog to for books and DVDs. You can also browse the shelves. History books are generally found in the following call number ranges:

  • 790 Recreational and performing arts
  • 791 Public performances
  • 792 Stage presentations
  • 812 American drama in English
  • 822 English drama
  • 832 German drama
  • 842 French drama
  • 852 Italian drama
  • 862 Spanish drama
  • 872 Latin dramatic poetry and drama
  • 882 Classical Greek dramatic poetry and drama

You can find the books you are looking for by locating the tag on the end of each book shelf that indicates the number range of the books on that shelf:

Another great way to start is by searching for journal articles. The Databases tab at the top of this guide will direct you towards a few that are especially useful for doing theatre research.

As always, if you need help, just ask a librarian!
